Garden Weddings seem to be amping up in popularity with many brides and grooms choosing to host there wedding in gardens, despite the ever changing and unpredictable British weather it seems simple garden weddings are the growing trend for 2022. The ideal weddings for those on a budget and also perfect for those DIY wedding fans.


It seems that with everyone spending so much time at home and in a lot of cases throughout the last 2 years the only time we have spent outside is the garden, It seems the thought now of large venues is quite off putting with couples realising that extravagance doesn’t always make the wedding.

But what do you need to consider for Your At Home Garden Wedding?

Legalities – As of 1 July 2021, civil ceremonies in England and Wales can legally take place outside. Before this, laws stated that you could only get married in licensed venues, such as churches, registry offices or hotels. If you are unsure there are lots of helpful websites as well the government site that can answer all the questions you might have.

Lighting – Depending on what time of year you hold your wedding, you will need to consider lighting, whether it be because the nights are drawing in or you intend to party into the early hours, lighting will be important. This can be delicate fairy lights, right through to hired outside lighting.

Food and Drink – Outside drinks are easy enough you can create your own bar or hire someone in, food on the other hand needs consideration, is it going to be something that you want to leave out like a running buffet or a BBQ. consider how you want to present your food, whether you hire someone to hand food round or if you have some really helpful family members willing to help with that job!

Heating – Summer nights are wonderful for an evening wedding party, but it does get cool quick, mention on your invites for guests to bring jackets and consider using outside heaters. These can be hired as well. Leave blankets around your venue for people to use.

Amenities – Guests will need toilet facilities and even somewhere for your female guests to touch up there make up. You may well be happy with people using your facilities and going through the house. You might even be fortunate enough to have a downstairs cloakroom. Otherwise consider hiring a portable loo, as we know things at all parties can get messy and this might be the right option to prevent your carpets from getting ruined.
